Birthdays

So this week has been eventful!
Monday was the congratulations party for Mary. Teresa and I decorated rm 224 all pretty to celebrate the upcoming wedding, grad school and good by from chaplaincy. It was nice to see so many there to support her. For me it was nice to talk to people that I usually only get to say "what room do you need the key for... Please print your name here."
Tuesday was the big, long awaited move of SDF stuff that was used for MTC back to storage. Laine and Sarah were great and helped me out so much, in the rain. It ended up taking a lot longer then I thought because 2 trips up were needed to the storage space. We have SO MUCH STUFF NOW! Then to Mississauga to return Laine's bench. Traffic on the way back made us 30minutes late for SDF's 1st production meeting. The meeting ended up being about Trainspotting b/c Matt, Becca, Sarah, Laine and I were the only ones there. That's mostly my fault because I didn't promote the meeting all that much. I then ran out of the meeting took the fastest shower ever and got ready to go to supper for Noa's birthday. Noa had been waiting all year to go to Tucker's. But we had to wait for a table. Outside she opened her gift and cut her palm with the tiny knife she was using. This lead to her in shock and us going to the ER. The hospital was very exciting for Noa "I've never been to the hospital since I was born". We ended up at Boston Pizza by the time we got out of the ER. I sneaked out for a few minutes to go wish James a Happy birthday too.
WEDNESDAY MAY 17th,
Was my 24th Birthday. Nothing too special. I worked all day, saw a part of the TrainSpotting rehearsal (f**ing hilarious) then saw Le Premier Jardin play. After the play plans changed a bit and we went to Snooty in stead of Perpper Jacks as my MSN name had said all day.

Out for a walk

Last night I slept for 15hrs:
and I woke up and didn't do anything, I sat in my room and watched DVDs. I'm bored, sitting alone in my dark room, in my PJays trying to get warm: what a foul mood I'm in.
So I decided to go for a walk. I'm sick and tired of not doing anything and being sedentary. I put on my perfectly-white-ex-nursing-clinical-shoes and went for a walk in Coots paradise.
I walk alone, along the path near the water and felt glad to be near water again, I had forgotten how it gives me life energy. At several points I stopped and just watched the waves, wishing I could just take off my close and swim to the other side.
As I trekked along I saw 2 huge vultures perched on a dead tree just watching me, some ducks, 2 diner-plate sized turtles and a swan eating from the bottom of a cove (I watched him for a long time-looking at how his neck curved).
I got home and had a tomato salad (aka a diced tomato, olive oil and spices). Then Adrian my housemate made me eat one of his pork chops and asked me if I could forgive Brian Adams for loving me.
I had a glass of wine with the pork chop. and then had the rest of the bottle for desert.
I'm well buzzed and called my mom to wish her a happy mommy's day. (I talked to her on Thursday when she called complaining we hadn't talked for over a week. So, today, we had nothing to say to each other 'cause life is so boring right now)
I applied for a job with Census Canada (my mom told me to)
And Now I have written this blog (as I talk to Quinn on MSN)

"I've got money in my pocket
I like the colour of my hair
I've got a friend who loves me
got a house, I've got a car
I've got a GOOD Mother
and her voice is what keeps me here,
Feet on Ground,
Heart in Hand,
Facing forward,
Be Yourself
...
I've got a good Father
and his strength is what makes me cry."

Romeo and Juliet -the ballet

Back in February at Charity Ball I "won" tickets to the National Ballet of Canada's show of Romeo and Juliet. [I say "won" but it was a silent auction so I got to pay for the tickets. It was an okay deal, the $ went to MacWheelers, and I would never have bought the tickets for myself otherwise]

So I had these Tickets and the first person I thought of was my best friend from elementary school Em (Emilie). She had done ballet for YEARS when she was younger so I knew that she would appreciate it. That and I hadn't seen here for a long time. (she and her husband live in Toronto- so it works out well)

Friday I got all dressed up and went to work at MUSC for the day, then I went to Toronto via GoBus. I met up with Em at the theatre and listened to the ballet talk before the show (we didn't really actively listen ;)
when the bell rang we found our seats- they were pretty good on the main floor about 20-25 rows back right in the centre.

Then it started, it was breath taking. the costumes were amassing and the dancing seemed so effortless but was so impressive. Knowing the story line helped a lot but the beauty of the movement was much more important.

I thought that they would just be dancing but they really acted out the show with great characti- zation (especially the Nurse and Mercutio)

[I found that I have so associated the roles with the people that played them in MTC last year that I started thinking "Oh there's so and so...". I even thought of Jared when Mercutio dies, which is funny cause the dancer was Asian LOL]

It was a wonderful evening and something truly special, I would love to go again.

That night I stayed at Em's place and I spent all day Saturday catching up with her. It was wonderful seeing this great friend again (she's one of those friends that you haven't seen or talked to each other for months but when you get together it's like you hung out just last week)

Bike are Cars too!?!

Today I was given a traffic ticket for not stopping at a stop sign. This seems normal until you know that I was on my bike and on Sterling street.
No one ever stops at those stops! and it takes so much energy to start again when you have stopped and it was cold and I was late for class.
Anyways I felt bad cause I usually do stop or slow down almost to a stop.

So I got a ticket for $110. because it's a violation of the highway traffic act and bikes are considered cars (but oddly you don't need a license to drive one)

I can't argue it, I know I need to stop!

The worst part is that the cop made mention of what could happen if I got hit without a helmet. The image of Heather (girl killed on Coots) came to mind - she was walking not biking so she wouldn't have been wearing a helmet anyways. And I cried out loud- embarrassing. I was very upset.

So I ended up being late for class, writing my notes in the wrong place (the wrong class pages), I was upset all day {hid it well}, and I have to pay $110. The biggest worry I now have is what this will do to my insurance for when I get a car - FUCK!

January and February 2006, lots going on!

Hi Guys, (well actually I doubt anyone reads this-mostly cause I don't write much)

I'll do my best to catch up what has happened so far this year:

Christmas at home was good. New Years at my place in Hamilton was great! I made supper for some close friends and we just hung out in my empty living room. I missed part of the night but that's another story...

Classes are going okay. I have 5 classes this term as a real Classics BA Honors student: Roman art, Greek archaic art, Roman Family, Roman History and 1st year film. I'm loving the art classes (I don't actually make art just study it). Family is pretty easy but really fun cause Erica and Monica are in that class with me -you know what that means? A good grade because of Erica's notes :) History is a bitch (I just wrote my midterm and I don't think it went very well) and film is not very interesting but I get to watch films with Rick sometimes.
I'm still working at MUSC admin. I started out with 11hrs a week, now I'm down to 8.5hrs and I like it more. I no longer do setups I'm just in the office. There's a little tension in the office from time to time but I still love working there. Teresa will be leaving on maternity leave soon and I'm going to miss her.
McMaster Thespian Club is going great. I ended up being Technical director for The Importance of Being Earnest as well as acting ASM because their ASM disappeared. It was a hectic time. As Tech Dir. I worked out the set design and construction along with Jared. We built periaktoi, which are triangular flats, each side was different and when you rotate them it's your scene change. We were building outside and it was quite cold but I had a great tech crew. We managed to get everything ready (even though we had a few problems with the double doors we were building) and we moved in on Monday January 30th. Two days of tech and dress rehearsal and we opened on Feb 1st. We had a great run, sold out a few days. Mom and Celine even came to see it. I didn't get to see it though because I was on head set back stage. It was a great show and I worked with some really great people. My prod squad was great, I can't wait to work with them again. Progress on As You Like It slowed down a bit while we worked on Earnest but we are looking good. [More about AYLI in later posts I'm sure] check out www.macthespians.com

Summer Drama Festival had a little progress to. We got 18 director proposals. and Just this week we selected our 2006 season. Check out www.summerdrama.blogspot.com

random things that happened are as follows:
Watching Gilmore Girls at Noa's all night on Jan. 7th and being locked out of my house when I got there in the morning, so I slept in MUSC and missed a lunch date :( . Locked door issue was solved by removing the bolt lock to the porch with the handy screw drives I got for Xmas.
I went to the Science formal on Jan. 13th and had a great time. It had been a long time since I had so much fun dancing.
The next day Jan 14th I caught up with AJ. Too much drinking occurred as it often does with AJ and we ended up in a big fight. Things were resolved shortly after.
Jan 20th we had a Serenity BBQ at James' Oh so much fun with the Fire Fly crew. This BBQ and the forgotten pie created a Pie night at James' on the 26th. Oh so much pie and so good... PIE....
Jan 21st weekend was a big build time for Earnest but I still managed to see the director series plays (I've actually seen all but one) and go to Samir's going away party.
Then it was the Earnest week. The week was made even more interesting by also seeing Girls! Girls! Girls! on Thursday afternoon. I even managed to get to Charity Ball after the Friday night show of Earnest.
Saturday Feb.4th brought a Earnest double header and a cast party. The cast party was very fun ;).
Sunday Feb 5th was the set strike and move out of HTI (where we held Earnest). It was hard work after a long week and a long night.
Then it was return to normal life. well kinda, I was so wiped.
I went to see a guest speaker on Feb 8th who talked about prehistoric ceramics in southern Italy it was a great talk. I found it so interesting how pottery making varied from village to village and this was attributed to the "grand-mother factor" [aka why do you do it that way? cause that's how my mother taught me and her mother taught her. why would I change it?] now this isn't really how it was presented but that's what I thought was awesome.
There was a Kingdom road trip organized by Steve and the sci-cos on Feb 10th.
Monica was in the Vagina Monologues and I saw her on Sunday Feb 12th. She was amazing!

Monday February 13th was an average day until I was waiting to cross Coots drive in the evening and was witness to a 19yr old girl being hit by a dump truck. I did what I could to help her, stop the bleeding from her head with my sweater and helped the ambulance get her out of there. I then waited for 2hrs in a cop car to be interviewed as a witness. When I left I got interviewed by CH news who pegged me as a hero on the news the next morning (I don't think so, I just did what needed to be done). The next day I found out that the girls name was Heather Watson and that she had died. It turns out that I know tones of people that knew her but never met her myself. Everyone were worried about me and I thank them for it but I'm fine. Erica and Crystal were supper nice and even bought me a new McMaster sweater. Heather’s parents apparently want to talk to me, so I left it to them to contact me.

Friday Feb 17th was another Pie night at James'. We watched Slashers and Doom.
I went home for the first weekend of reading week, rented a car and drove it was great. The DeVillers came over on Sunday to share pictures from their trip to Dominican Republic. Oh Family is so fun.
Oh and as proof that I am now a real grown up (though I might argue that at times) I got a wedding invitation. My own invitation not one with my parents, but my own and I get to bring a guest.
The rest of reading week was work and AYLI production stuff and studying on the weekend. Reading week is much too short for all the things I wanted to get done.

WOW that's enough for now. Just know that this week has been crazy and I only expect the month to get worst.
